Nanook Crashes

Postby Rapid Randy Baker » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:36 pm

Rick Hough driving the "New" Nanook after a bad crash last year, had trouble at the Gators against the Rat Trap. The car hit both walls, and original reports said Rick was ok, but going to the hospital for a check over.

Today it is being reported he will loose his hand. It came out and got between the wall or pavement and the cars roll bars.

Sad news for a great guy and his family!

Sorry to hear this. All the best to Rick and his family. I hope they can reattach? I had a friend who cut off his hand in a carpentry accident and was lucky enough to have them reattach it. bp

I sure am sorry to hear this. I often thought about Darrell Gwynn after his accident. At least he isn't going to be paralysed. I hear they have prosthetics now that are amazingly good...Dick LaHaie and Clayton Harris both lost their hands and they were successfully reattached...but if the hand was damaged or crushed, there isn't a whole lot that can be done. My prayers are with Rick and his family. WC1

I haven't talked to anyone who is really connected, so maybe this is not the correct info. It is being said that the hand is to bad to replace/fix. I hope that is wrong,,,, :(

Ok, this was on another site on the web. I know the guy who posted it, and since it is just about the actual condition of Rick I felt it was ok to copy and paste...If that is a problem take it down and I will re-type from memory.

SUBJECT: Rick Hough
DATE: - Monday, March 20, 2006 at 08:00:21 (EST)

I'm not going to speculate what the plans are for the Hough family. But, I did talk to Dave at length yesterday about the situation. I didn't pry, just listened to Dave tell me what his thoughts and feelings are about the wreck and what the future holds.

As to his injuries, the doc's tried to save the hand that got crushed, but there was just too much damage and unfortunately had to remove it.

I'll say this much, Dave was clear about not wanting to see Rick drive anymore, as any father would say. He also indicated that he'd be ok with rebuilding if Rick wants to continue as a tuner.

Dave also passed this on about what Rick said at the hostpital, and that he would have been really pissed if he lost his hand over a slow run, rather than the pass of his life. That car was thundering, running a .16 while up against the wall.

I'm still sick over what happened to Rick, and what the family must go through. They are a great bunch of people.
