Bob, let's just say I sometimes get to play with some toys a little sooner than others...

As for the drag racing world, Bret is showing us the difference between our speculation and his knowing. I get to see Bret about once or twice a year and during those weekends, I usually learn more about what's really going on in the sport than I do by living online the rest of the year.

It was fascinating to me how NHRA classified the different types of drinks and fuels... without that knowledge (obtained here just hours ago), Bernstein's deal just looked like a COMPLETE waiving of the rules for one of their chosen few... there might still be some of that, but at least now we know how they are selling it...

WC, take it from me, Bret is one of the good guys and his posts should be taken more as good natured ribbing (I'm a veteran of it) and not a cut...

I'm glad to have you both up here... Until Bret gets going on his next 50 weekend deal next year, I'm glad he can join us to provide a rare glimpse into the stuff behind the headlines... bp

Alrighty then, good to know my sponsorship deal won't be a conflict of interest for anyone, so I guess we won't have to tank it. -- LOL

And don't ask yet guys, I can't tell you.

But it's big.

Well, here's another one that is kind of one of those things that makes you go hmmmmm,

VP Fuels is the "Official" fuel of NHRA, so what's up with Torco Fuels being on so many cars?

If they can't have an alternative energy drink, then how come the alternative fuel can be so vastly advertised. I'm not against it, in fact I think if someone lands a deal, they should be able to use it, it's only a name on a car, and other things, trailers etc......

I was under the understanding that there cannot be any exclusives, and I know I'm still learnig, but is there any one that can shead some light on this?
Alot of Sportsman racers race in both NHRA and IHRA sactioned events. In addition to to the multitude of other (outlaw this, street tire that) small sanctioning bodies.

Bottom line for me though, VP pays contingency in NHRA and Torco pays in IHRA.
114 is 114 to me and we buy our fuel at the track so.... Two stickers for my hot rod.
Can make the difference between a $1500.00 payday a $10,000.00 one.

Bret has some amazing attributes Image

If there is ANYTHING you want to know in the world of drag racing, Bret is the man. It is unreal that he can quote word for word a conversation that went on almost 20 years ago. He also takes some fabulous pictures.

I'm at work so I can't stay long, but hey, no problem. I'm a good-natured ribber, too. I enjoy Bret's posts and I have been happy to exchange PMs and emails with him. He's a great guy, and I agree, he's one the most knowledgeable and interesting people in drag racing. Don't think I'd ever hesitate to trust issues like this to him. Sorry if I seemed uptight. It's all good. I do think they're splitting hairs with that situation, though. It smells like corporate communications and marketing executives making decisions for the racers. I've seen that kind of stuff happen with sponsorship graphics and I also had to deal with corp comm idiots the last 10 years I worked at an oil company. Anyway, thanks and see y'all later...Cheers, WC1

You never saw me argue THAT point!

No retort on the Bubble Puppy comment? I'm extremely disappointed. So much so that I'm going to pitch my entire International Artists collection. "Goodbye, 13th Floor Elevators..."

As for me being such an all-knowing great guy, you people are all drunk. My drag racing IQ hovers near 30 when I'm with Chris Martin.

And I still call Ausec "Da Big Kahuna"! (I used to call him Butch Andreas but he hated that.)

Who's this Barb chick, anyway? :?

Da Big kahuna??????????????? Me?????? Where did that come from???

Jeff Deardurff had da Big Kahuna Corvette that he won the MFCA championship with in 1987. He bought the car from Bruce Andreas.

I do have to admit that I have been called much worse than that though! :o

BTW, Barb is the delightful Barb Santucci. :)

I also agree with the others in that it's good to have you in here Bret. :D :D :D :D
