LOL Brett, That's what I was thinking.
I don't know much about these energy drinks and such, as I need to watch my sugar intake, but isn't Monster energy drink a competitor of Powerade?

I had exactly the same thought, albeit I am as cynical as Bill Maher today. The whole thing looked to me like a suit somewhere, maybe upstairs at NHRA or an organization that has a lot of POWER(ade?), sat them down and had a little talkie-poo with them and pointed out how GREAT it will make them look when they decide to forego a 3-YEAR SPONSORSHIP...because it represents a conflict of interest...something about it just don't seem quite right to me...heck, I'll take the sponsorship! Folks're probably lined up outside those guys' office, rolling out sleeping bags in the lobby right now! Cheers, WC1

Sounds like the same thing as someone "accepting" your resignation... bp

When Powerade first signed on with NHRA wasn't there something in the rule book forbidding teams from having competing companies like Gatorade as a sponsor. I remember reading something like that & it really pissed me off that "my sh@t don't stink suites" have a right to tell me who I can have as a sponsor or not.

That's right, Bob, I remember that now...I'd forgotten about all the deals surrounding Powerade coming in but that's what they said, isn't it...so here goes NHRA, saluting that team to us for them deciding completely on their own to walk away from a guaranteed major deal... After all, integrity is the cornerstone of the whole business at NHRA. BTW, I noticed they have a new marketing director as of yesterday. Could be she was the one who accepted this decision from them so gracefully as her new career begins...Cheers, WC1

...but what about his majesty, Kenny Bernstein and his excellency, Ray Alley? Don't they have Monster Energy Drink sponsorship? Or is that part of Coke or something? Annheuser Busch?
