Anybody Know This Car?

Postby WildcatOne » Tue Jan 16, 2007 9:40 pm

I looked for a thread to post this in but I couldn't find one that suited the picture, ya know. I found this on a site way out there the other night, and I fell in love with it. It's probably from the late 50s. I think it's either a Caddy or an Olds in it. There is some lettering on the cowl that I can't distinguish but it probably says who belongs to the car...I just dig the heck out of great old iron like this...Cheers, WC1

Could it be a flathead? I only see 3 zoomies. I might be missin' one though, hard for me to see. :?:

That is a cool deal, not doubt about it. 8) 8)

You're right, Pro. There are 3 exhaust headers...it's a flathead...that'd put it earlier, probably...WC1

a lot of early V8's had siameses exhaust, caddie and olds are two, so maybe you were right TC. i also think Lincoln, Studabaker and Packard fit in there too.

Right, Art...I can see a valve cover under the hood, and 3 headers coming out. I know it's not a Chevy or a Chrysler or a Pontiac, but I do seem to remember seeing the siamese headers on early OHV engines such as Lincoln, Caddy and Olds, with Stude and Packard in the mix...seems like they started making all 8 exhaust ports for V8's in around '55 or so? Thanks, WC1

I can't tell if that's a valve cover or a reflection off the side panel? My ol' I'z ain't what they usta' be. Sure would like to get a better look at the front suspension.

I've been looking at that, too, Pro. That doo-hickey coming out from in front of the nosepiece that's sitting just behind the front axle...what the heck is that? Is it a box with a spring in it? Couldn't be ballast? I wouldn't think it would need ballast with that skinny slick in back and the car is probably all-steel with an altered stock chassis...it is an intriguing feature on the front of the car...

Interesting car Cat, I don't think it's a flathead either the pipes are too high up the side of the block. It looks as though it may have an old ford rearend or some other early car, the rear drums look like they bolt on. Nut holding them on the axle. Maybe a model "A" front axle. Looks pretty spindly though even for an "A".
If you think it's exciting now, wait till we start it.
