Hello to everyone I am wanting pictures of Tommy Johnsom Sr's 1967 camaro super hugger drag car. Also any stories from those who were there in the 1970's.Greetings.
My name is Craig Tomfeld. I just became a member after reading your posts about the Tri-State Dragway. I'm originally from Donnelson, Iowa. About 40 minutes away from Kahoka. I was around 10 to 12 years old when my father would occasionally take me to the drags at Kahoka. The times he took me there made a BIG influence on the rest of my life. I've been a gearhead ever since. I'll never forget seeing Jack Ditmar's Lil Screamer doing wheelstands down the track, and who can forget the time Art Arfons was there with the Green Monster jet car and torched the fence and banners at the starting line when it took off. Let's not forget the 33, or 34, Plymouth called the Misfit either. I have been fortunate to have made friends with alot of guys, and gals, from the surrounding area where I live, that raced at that track. My wife and I have a get together every year at our shop and invite several of these ex Kahoka racers. Their stories about those days at that track are endless.
I regret not taking any photos of the times I went to the drags at Kahoka, however I know of somebody that does. I myself have several photos from 1970 thru 1975 at the Lee County Dragway in Keokuk, Iowa. I never missed a race those years. My photos from there will be on display at the next "Keokuk Racer's Reunion" to be held this year at the mall in Keokuk, Sat. June 19th. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend, because I will be at the Back to the 50s car show in St. Paul, Mn. that weekend.
I'm looking forward to hearing more stories and seeing more photos about the Tri-State Dragway. Lee County Dragway as well.
