OK, time for a new thread that we can ALL participate in fully...
Where did you live over your lifetime? City, state, house, apartment, with whom, when, etc., etc. Maybe we'll get into more details as we read these and ask questions... I'll start...
Bill Pratt
Born Cleveland, Ohio 1958 - Can't remember the hospital!
Lived on the East Side (77th Ave?) for a few years
Moved to the West Side - Valley View housing projects. Lived there until I was 12. Went to Tremont Elementary School. The area was going downhill fast by the time I was in my tweens, but today is rebuilding as a trendy new place to live.
Moved to live with family friends when I was 13 and 14. Ravenna, Ohio. The high school in the city was 7th grade through 12th. Bottom line: you joined a gang or you got nailed. I was already a junior member of the projects gang and mom said enough is enough. Big Bud and Lois Sanford took me in during school months -- one of the most generous acts ever and provided me a dad figure that I desperately needed. Crestwood Middle School in Mantua, Ohio.
Moved entire family out of the city and out to the farm when I was 14. A widow and seven city kids on a farm with horses, a half acre garden, etc. We had no freaking idea what we were doing. Mom didn't even drive and we were two or three miles from town! She wheeled and dealed with the neighbors and we made it work. Next door neighbor was an Amish gentleman who helped us a lot -- Mr. Hershberger. Started working full time to help pay the bills. Went to Garfield High School in Garrettsville, Ohio.
Moved into town when I was 16-18. Rented half of a big duplex that had been a stage coach stop in the 1800s. (My mom and I later went in together and bought this house).
US-NAVY from 18-24. Orlando, FL boot camp, one year in San Diego at School (near OCIR!), a few months in Augusta, Georgia at Fort Gordon, and then 4.5 years on the US-NIMITZ, seeing much of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Lived in Norfolk, Virginia, when I was in port.
24-25. Took a year off, went back to Garrettsville, and did basically nothing. Was house husband/dad to my brothers, sisters, and mom. Cooked, cleaned, did laundry, and basically decompressed. Hung out with pals until 4am, then did it all over again the next day.
1983 - Moved to Washington, DC, area to test the computer telecommunications systems I'd used on the ship. Did that job from 1983 to 1996. Lived in Fort Washington, Clinton, and finally, Waldorf, MD, where we still live today.
Lots of friends, fun, and crazy times at each step along the way...
Now, what about YOU? bp
