A new PBS show called "Carrier" will be starting on 4/27/08 - 5/1/08
It is about life on board the USS Nimitz during an actual deployment to the Persian Gulf to provide support for the Iraq war.

BP,
Check your local PBS listings, they had an 1 hour preview on late last night about the show.

I got a ton of 'em! Here is one... when I first got on the ship, I landed on the carrier during the day (backwards on a COD -- that was a story in itself!) Anyway, after a day of work I decided to go out side to see what the sea looked like at night. The trouble is, we were doing submarine avoidance ops in the Straits of Messina and that sucker was going FLAT OUT! I literally had to climb the handrail hand over hand just like you might see the mimes doing... I literally would have blown off if I wasn't holding on... I made my way back to the door and straddled the walkway, holding on to the door with one hand and the railing with the other. In one leap, I let go of the railing and heaved all my weight into the wind while holding onto the heavy metal door, which was opened, Lincoln suicide style, right into the wind! I had to do a sort of Spiderman move, tossing my weight into the wind and trying to bring the door with me, against the wind, and hoping that my then 200 lbs. was enough to close that door against that wind. I made it inside, but I was still fighting the wind, which was trying to suck that door open. I had to pull hard backwards, but I got that sucker closed and the hatch closed. I learned a good lesson but it was exciting! I have a million stories from traveling around Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. What a great time it was (although I bitched about being there the entire time I was there!) bp
