Both the Hurst Hairy Olds and the Tornado reminded me of Gary Gabelich's 4WD Vega flopper. Remember that thing?

I painted the tribute to the Hurst Hairy Olds. It has since been given to the Oldsmobile club in Detroit, and was in the museum the last that I knew.

Your friend sent several handouts and souvenirs from that car for our "Blues For Becky" benefit in 2004, Rapid. It was much appreciated. They were auctioned at the concert and brought in money for Becky. You did a fantastic job on that car. I kinda wish it was still out there making smoke and thunder, but at least we know it's safe! Cheers, WC1

Schubeck's experiences with his Olds soured him on just about everything.

Gabelich's Vega was the most expensive ride he ever took...and I'm not talking about finances.

Close... but not quite...

Postby Chrisssssssss » Mon Aug 17, 2009 7:07 pm

Hey there grabber1 - Thanks for the effort. It's been a while since I have checked up on this thread. Although that pic that you have is close and I think the same exact crash, it is not quite the one that I am looking for. i have never personally seen the pic that I am talking about, and I have showed my friend this one that you have found, says that it is not the right angle of the car.

I really appreciate your help and thanks for that pic. I already have searched the internet thoroughly, and that one I had already found. I have gathered every pic that I came across on the computer so I can almost guarantee that it is not on the net anywhere so it would have to be in print only at this point. If anyone comes across a pic that fits the description that I posted earlier, just keep it in mind and I would be grateful for any information or help pointing me in the right direction in locating that pic.

Thanks again for helping and really appreciate any and all effort.

Kinda off topic here, but I am in process of rebuilding my truck and will post some pics n'vids of it when I get it is finished with the motor rebuild. It is a '92 GMC Typhoon that ran low 12's (4.3L V6 Turbo Intercooled All Wheel Drive running about ~550-600HP) before I snapped a piston rod and blew a hole through the piston wall and sent another piece of the rod through the oil pan. It should be done by the end of sept (hopefully) so I will post a new topic on that one when I finish that.

Thanks again
cheers
Chris
