Just saying hello

Postby RearEngineT » Fri Jul 18, 2008 11:17 pm

Just joined, and looking forward to some good Drag Race reminiscing with other old Geezers like me, as well as any youngsters in the group.. I'm 72 years old, and can't race anymore, but still am a Motorhead, and will be to the end. Wonder what others think about the 1000 ft ruling that NHRA put into effect? I'll have to say that I was impressed with the Mile High race, as there seemed to be less blown engines, and closer races. I think it had to be done untill they can address some of the other problems. I don't want to see any more fellow Drag Racers lose their life!
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary, etc.

Les

Welcome Les. We would be more than attentive to stories you may post...in Fact...it is a requirement ...(LOL)

As for the 1000' doin's?....I'm on the fence about it right now, and totally agree that NHRA needed to do "something" right away. I'm kind of the opinion that most folks really can't tell the difference in a 290 mph pass and a 330 mph pass when viewing it from the stands....and watching coverage on tv is so misleading as to the actual speeds these cars ARE going its not even funny. And lets not even get started on the "sounds" of a drag race "trying" to come through the speakers of a tv set....it AIN'T gonna happen. Nothing, and I mean from the bottom of my heart, NOTHING can compare to the sights, sounds and smells of being there in person.
Long Live Draglist!

Howdy, Les. Welcome to the group. Honored to have you here and looking forward to all your stories. I thought the 1000 foot racing was cool, but I would have preferred 660 feet only because it's more of a known deal (and if they stick with 1000 feet I have to add four new fields to the drag lists!) I frankly was amazed that they were at 308 mph already (and that was at high altitude Denver). That means 315 at 1000 feet at sea level is probable and if so, what have we bought (just 320 feet of extra stopping distance, which at 308 mph buys you a whopping 7 tenths of a second more to react in). Anyway, glad to have you here and looking forward to chatting with you. bp
