A number of years ago when I had my Super Gas Camaro a divison 5 points meet came to Cedar Falls.

A couple of weeks before, I was at the same track and went to the finals where it rained out and we split the money. Flat out I was running 9.80's. So I was all set for the Div meet,,,,I thought.

I got there, tech'd, the first pass was almost a tenth and a 1/2 too fast! I did the throttle stop deal and ran a .92 on the 2nd pass. Ok then,,,good to go.

1st round, both had decent lights, I was around him, at 1250 foot I tap the brakes and take the stripe. The F********ing car went 9.897 and I lost in the 1st round!!!!!!!!

I HATE BRACKET RACING!!!

I sold my Ness Camaro and built another in my long line of Fast Pro Street Hot Rods and I never have broken out on the street or track since! :D

Iknow what you mean Randy... when bracket racing began i thought it was stupid.... for many years.... then i tried it with my old heap with little sucsess.... stayed away from the sport for quite a while until Don said he was putting a car together for his son to drive... it took a while to get the whole idea and the mathmatics involved in this deal embedded into Don's head of how to cut good lights and play the finish line etc. now Don can drive as good as some seasoned veterens and we have the car working good and even tho it is a low horsepower deal i look foward to getting to the track and the competition.... have made some friends over there and i enjoy every second of it.... 8)

JS, I wasn't putting anybody's bracket racing deal down. I just love to go fast and make my old heap faster than the other guys. It is just the type of racing I live for.

Those bracket guys, who cut the killer lights, and then run the number with a 0 or a 1 are really something from a scientific point of view. Then to do it for 6-7-or more times a nite and day are really something. It also gives everybody a place to race. I just always cared more about going faster and faster and couldn't leave the deal alone.

Everyone says that it's a game of consistancy. It is, but, that is an all encompassing word.

You have to know the car, know your weather station, know the track. Alot of times, knowing the guy in the next lane is the edge. If you know he always stomps the binders at the end or that he just HAS to take the stripe. It can be the edge that you need to win. I mean these classes are super competitive and guys are not playing around.

Eddie on the first round 9.909 and there were still two guys that finished better than him in the first round. NHRA is not so great sporsman results but the IHRA is. Check out their site sometim and look at how close the guys are in the super classes.

It was nice to see Yates and Toni win. I've known Jim since 1987 when I had a "yeah, right" attitude about this guy wanting to go pro stock racing. Damn if he didn't win the world championship twice and was in the hunt several other times. Nice folks, too. bp
