Well that might be an overstatement Anyway, last night I couldn't sleep. Had the T.V. on a PBS station about 1:30 am. There was this lady doin' a documentary type program, going around the country exploring travel spots in the US. Well, they were doin' a segment on traveling Hwy. Rt. 66. I was half a sleep & just sorta' payin' attention when I see a shot of the Polk-a-Dot Drive Inn @ Braidwood, IL. It's a 50's style "Slow Food" place, as they like to call it, that's got the ''50's menu'' and the place is full of 50's-60's memorabilia. Always a favorite stop off place for caravans & cruises gettin' their kix on Rt. 66. Also, home of "Cruise Night" first weekend in August every year. I see pics. of the menu boards I did a number of years ago. Popeye & Betty Boop cut outs for kids to get their pics. taken with, and other assorted signs N' stuff. I just thought that was cool.
If they wood' have gone across the street to Micky "D"s place they would have found a 4ft x 16ft. canvas painting of Rt. 66. hangin' on the wall. Starts in Illinois & goes to California with depictions of what you might see in each state. Painting includes CA Street Rods, AZ Steer Skull, NM Abandon gas pump, OK oil derrick, KS Combine in a wheat field, IL coal mine plant, Braidwood historical buildings, Chicago Skyline. Worked in illustrations of my 66 GTO, and the ol' 40 panel truck, a couple street rods I painted back in the day and topped it off with an eagle in flight. I think it's the last painting I've done. That was problee' 15 yrs. ago.
O.K., that's the end of my flashback. Time to go BBQ.
