Piggly Wiggly

Postby RickO » Fri Jun 12, 2009 11:14 am

The last 3 stores in North Texas closed this week. The 2 in Denton and the one left in Sherman have perished. Wal-Hell's and the chain's have squeezed out the last little guy supermarket. I shopped at them when I first moved down here and still giggle at the name.
RIP lil piggy.

Sad to see them go. Same thing has happened with most independent hardware and auto parts stores as well around here...WC1

That's where I first saw them too. Lived in Sioux City Iowa, until around 5, then move to California. Took my Dad with me, as I needed someone to drive me.

Used to go to the one there in east Denton when I lived down that way, can't remember the name of the road it was on road, had friends who lived in the apartments behind it. Neat little store. Rip Piggly Wiggly

Still Alive

Postby Iowa Al » Thu Jun 18, 2009 9:48 pm

I Googled Piggly Wiggly and found the company site. All stores are independently owned, but although there may not be any left in Texas, there are still 600 doing business.

That's a lot O' Pigglys. :D

I thought Schwan's ice cream was in trouble. However, yesterday I saw a Schwan's truck with a big HELP WANTED vinlle' wrap on the back.

Schawn's

Postby Iowa Al » Mon Jun 22, 2009 1:15 pm

Our neighbors across the street keep Schawn's in business all by them selves. The route man must love them.

Our local Piggly Wiggly sold out this year also in Texas and now it is a Retkoft's.
