Hi Lion... I'm going to post this story on the front page, too, but got to check the years... If you witnessed the second five in a fuel funny car, this was 1976 or 1977... Prudhomme ran the first give at Ontario 1975. Then the John Loper car was second (the one you witnessed). But was it Tripp Shumake or Eddie Pauling? Also, was it the Monza or the Arrow? The Arrows didn't come out until 1977. I think that it was Eddie Pauling in the Monza that ran a 5.98 at Irwindale in 1976, but I wonder if your memory confirms that... Anybody else who knows, please jump in! bp

My memory on that one is not as sharp as normal, I am fairly sure that it was Tripp Shumake and once again I believe it was the Arrow. I thought I might of been off by a year or two on this one, I also think for Clarence he was in the Challenger.

Cool... probably 77 then... although if Clarence in the new style Challenger, it had to be 78 or later... bp
