Windows 7.... NOT!

Postby draglist » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:42 pm

So, as Windows' last chance with me after suffering through two years of Vista, I went to load Windows 7 on my two year old Dell Vostro 1700 today.

It spent three hours going through the install, then got to the last step and told me that a file was missing and it had to back out. The CD was still in the drive. What file could be missing?

I think I have finally had it. I considered dropping the extra grand and buying a Mac when I purchased this expensive pig two years ago, but I stuck with Dell/Windows for one more try... how bad could Vista be?

Pretty bad. I was hoping that Windows 7 would at least make it palatable, but of course, I can't even get it loaded. When I will learn?

Time to visit the Mac store but I'll never get the thousands out of this thing that I wasted... bp

I've been a MAC guy since the 80's. I think you'll like 'em BP.

Sorry to hear about the glitches and what-have-yous that happen with those PCs...especially the loss factor...I've had this Mac G-4 for about 5 or 6 years now and it's been good. Not perfect, like me, but plenty good enough for what I do. I figured out how to open MS Word documents on it and it'll do a few other tricks, but doing graphics like I do, it doesn't make any difference at all to me whether it's a PC or a Mac. I'm consistently behind by one or two versions on the OS update, which is one of the ways they keep making money...sooner or later this computer will be obsolete and I'll have to get a new iMac. Two would be nice. But I'll settle for this one for the foreseeable future. Debby uses the PC as do all my friends who need to get online, but the ol' Mac has been OK. Good luck on your next computer. The Dell has given Debby fits a few times in the past but we have a friend who comes over and fixes stuff on it...but I do hear her swear at it a lot... :x

BP,
When upgrading your OS system, the best way to do it is to back up all your data, reformat the drive and do a clean install.

Thanks, all. I haven't had time to screw with it in the past few days. I will give it one more shot, then Amazon is getting Windows 7 back and the Mac store is getting a trade in. bp
