Remembering December 2nd-1972

Postby 223rd&Alameda » Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:19 pm

As I have since that day, whenever this date come around a special but sad feeling runs thru my veins. On this day, since 1973, one year later, the special box comes out. Inside I look at all the programs and magazines, all the weekly papers and remember all the great times. Days and nights spent with my best friend, my racing buddy, my dad. All the chili dogs, chili tamales, listening to Bernie Mather, Steve Evans or a special guest announcer like Jon Lunberg call a big show. Push starts, roller starters. big shows, small shows, all were special. Dad and I hit over 200 shows and loved 'em all.

So today with sadness but fond memories I salute the greatest drag strip of all time, located at 223rd & Alameda in Wilmington, California, the unequaled Lions Drag Strip. I was so lucky to be part of it. Drag Racing lost a piece of history, Southern California was dealt a severe blow. Now on to the box.
