A lot of people do not know that "Jungle Bobbi" Liberman was the "first lady" to be a back-up lady in the mid 60's. Checkout James Randall Liberman (Randy) on Facebook.com to see pictures of his beautiful mom, Bobbi.

Later the "Legend Jungle Pam" Hardy became the most famous of all for "Jungle Jim Liberman. Checkout "JunglePam".com

Well now, it has grown to be more famous than ever for a race team to have a beautiful gal doing the back-up guiding for the driver. Stormy Byrd of California has had a few different ones in the pass and of course will have in the future. They being; Annett Book, Marva Taylor, Jennifer Luna, Ely Stafford, "Sarah" of Rod & Kulture, Roxy & Roxanne and Margaret "Utah Margo" Gordon. Now for the East-Coast we have the ladies of the Rocky Pirrone Racing Team; Alyson Kurtas, Michele Fiel and Liz Lovas. Check them out at RockyPirrone.com

Now an addition to the club is the lady behind and in front of Lou Sgro - Colleen Mahony-Sgro. And "Jungle Jon"
Capps' "Jungle Jim Nostalgia Texas Team" of Henry Gutierrez, Kristi "Ga. Peach" Wynn.

Three new members of this club are; Krista Masserella of "Total Insanity" Funny Car, Toni Iannotti from
the "Drag Racing Underground" videos (thanks Diana "The Doc" Thomas a great writer on Draglist.com)
and Faye Hamilton. She is Ken Hamilton's dragster out of Florida lady.

Ken Hamilton's dragster out of Florida.

Thanks to Jack for having the courtesy and class of acknowledging the valuable contributions these women bring to drag racing... Helping to keep the cars backed-up correctly, and perfectly placed in "the groove" is very important work (it's a lot more important than some folks comprehend)... And as far as all the back-up girls who were present at E-Town's recent NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS/FUNNY CAR REUNION, a lot of credit for that happening goes to veteran Raceway Park photographer John McCartney-- It was John McCartney who lobbied so strongly and advocated so tirelessly for the back-up gals to have a pronounced presence at the event, and for there to be a legitimate competition... Let's face it, in this current climate of Nostalgia Funny Car racing, where some of the blowhards of the scene, stick to a strict "No Gals Allowed" and "San Fran Bath House Male Only" mentality and policy, it sure was incredibly refreshing to see the women play such a predominant role at the E-Town event... Hopefully this will catch on as a positive trend that will enable more women to play a more active role in drag racing (it would certainly add color and a bit of much welcome fresh air to the "Nostalgia Drag Racing" genre)... If what we saw at E-Town was any indication of things to come, I believe we're taking a step in the right direction... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Very interesting closing of the 2011 season has three of the "Back-up Babes" now drivers.
Michele Fiel is now licensed to drive an A/GS for the Rocky Pirrone Group.
Krista Masserella of "Total Instanity" Fuel Funny Car has gotten her license too, to drive their funny car.
Alyson Kurtas has purchased the Bob Hall's "Paddy Wagon" wheelstanding Chevy Vega panel wagon.
She will practicing for her license at Md. Intl. Raceway in the spring with Bob Hall's guidance.

Newest members of the "JAck Approved Back-Up Babes Club" are Ellen Mcauliffe, who does
the deal for Dale Broderick's Comp machine from Clinton, Md., and Julie "Classy Chassis" Braskett
of the Braskett & Burgin Funny Car Team from California. Ellen & Dale are at all of the
"JAck Approved" Nostaglia Meets and have some great food! lol Julie will be at the
Bakersfield March Meet to do some backing-up chores.

And the latest member to the "Club" is Tania Hamilton from New Zealand. Joined the
club after the guys from America went to Australia and New Zealand for an exhibition
deal into both countries with a few different class of drag cars.

A new member coming into the club this year and that is "cutie" Audrey Worm.
Many know her as the driver in dragster of her Dad, John Worm of Slingshot Dragsters
at the CenPen Speed Shop in Penna. John is the builder of the "NEW USA-1" of Bruce Larson's.
Hummm, could that be her "Back-Up" gig?

How could I have miss this lady? Leah Pruett who started with Jr. Dragsters and now is a driver in
Top Fuel Dragsters. She also now spends some time doing the back-up for Gary (formerly "Lil Bear" -
- now grown-up) Pritchett, when he is racing and she is not.
By the way, they are now engaged!
