SUPER CHEVY SUNDAY

Postby Gator » Fri Mar 10, 2006 7:03 am

Those early years..late 80's,early 90's......
Some of my favorite memories....
Just a handful of us.........(the cars were a handful too)
I remember having nhra brass coming to Bakersfield to check out this "outlaw bunch",and being somewhat surprised at our attention to safety and our professionalism.........(we All certified just fine)
after all, we ran on their top nat'l event tracks all over the country with the super chevy show.
(over 80,000..yup 80 thou, watched us in indy,(for example)
Out of this,and the wild bunch...ProModified was born(the name)..Hell the cars(a few then),were already making it happen.(as Animal says.."I know I was there" :)
Super Chevy Sunday(later and now Super Chevy Show,is where we became legitimate players in Pro Drag Racing...still outlaws, but legal, respected Pro Racers...
Then the Fabulous USSC..............

I always look forward to the Super Chevy Show, when it comes through Rt. 66.

As a one time SMALL time promoter, I always envied the gigantic crowds that Roger Gustin and crew generated. They know how do this this stuff RIGHT! Everybody gets paid, everybody goes away happy. Neat deal. bp

Those were terrific days. Man, Pro Mods have always had a lot of options... I remember when the IHRA events used to sometimes conflict with Super Chevy dates and that was a big concern. Now, we have IHRA, NHRA, ADRL, and elsewhere... Danny White has been entering Pro Mod type cars into the draglists and there are THOUSANDS of them... bp
