I got a call from Rt. 66 Operations Manager Chris McMahan & Rick Krafft earlier today that the Match Race Mania event was cancelled till next season. Everything was in place except the weather report. A huge rain, thunder and lightning front is moving in as I type this and will last till Monday. I have been waching this weather thing since last Sat. and checking every hour for the lasy few days.
Rick said it was a very hard decision. He did not want participants to travel to Joliet and then get rained out. He made the right decision. Even if we some of it in-the fan attendence would not be good. I think it will rain all day Fri., Sat. and Sunday.
I had just hooked my truck to the trailer to leave Fri. morn. We had a picture shoot scheduled for 10 am. Fri.
I'm sitting here with thousands of $$$ in bright orange Animal Jim T & Sweat Shirts plus a substantial appearance Contract. Total of potential revenue of at least $6,000. Plus no Speed Vision TV etc.
But I feel worse for Rick Krafft. He worked hard and spent lot of $$$$ on the show. He lost 10 times what I did.
Rick and Chris will hash out a new date for next season and let me know soon as possible.
I have been through this all this stuff before. Many times.
This show has great potential. I had hundreds of fans, friends & associates from all over tell me personally they were coming to this event. I have been on phone and e-mailing since this morning spreading the word about the cancellation. So has Chris and Rick Krafft.
If it does well next year-look for more Rick Krafft Match Race Mania programs a season. Hell I may even have to buy some new parts for Zeke and my 22 year old engine.
