WHITTIER, Calif. -- Eagle II Motorsports has announced today that 66 year old, Dwayne Wilcox, prominent drag racing driver from the early days of the sport passed away Saturday Dec. 2nd in Torrance Ca of kidney failure as a result of complications stemming from diabetes.
Along with driving his own drag cars, Dwayne's career encompassed driving for such notable owners as John Peters and Nye Frank in the days of famous Southland drag strips such as the old LIONS strip in Long Beach Ca as well as the myriad of other California strips - since closed - that were so popular with drag racers in the heyday of the sport. In later years Dwayne served as a crewmember for the Bender and Hier Junior Fuel Nostalgia dragster, which ran with the Goodguys VRA racing association.
"Dwayne was an avid fan of the sport" said Ronnie Hier with Eagle2Team.com, "he had a photographic memory of all the old drag cars and drivers. If you needed to know what kind of car or who the driver was, when or where it ran, who it raced against and who won, believe me Dwayne would know". We will all miss him".
