A real character; a firebrand politician, he voted on both sides of the aisle according to his own conscience. He saved New York and made it stick. I remember when he came on Saturday Night Live and made a smiling promise to America: "I just wanted to say thank you for bailing us out here in New York, America, and I promise you won't regret it!" Rest in peace, Ed. It's the end of an era. WC1

The place has improved considerably since I went there on my senior trip... Ed gets a lot of credit for that. bp
