Freddy had a lot of hits around here, ya know...he had a beautiful voice. The Citykings recorded "Four Lifetimes" in the same studio he used to make those hits, SugarHill. He was produced by the legendary Huey P. Meaux, who I heard recently is back on the scene again after doing hard time for some really bad things...but "I'll Be There Before The Next Teardrop Falls" is another one that went crossover...he sang it in English and Spanish. Freddy Fender got in trouble during his life and he paid his dues, but as an artist he was respected and admired by everyone. I'm not sure if he made it to a hall of fame, probably he did. He's always been there and we take it for granted. RIP, Freddy. Pee Wee went by to visit Freddy's dad last week when he was down in Harlingen and he got the word that Freddy was doing OK, then the very next night we did a Freddy Fender medley as a tribute to his passing.
