We're headed to Central Illinois Dragway near Havana, IL. this Saturday, September 24 to do battle with the Horvath Family in a two car match race. This will be our last race of the year and the Horvath's are great competitors and great friends. We're looking forward to it.

The Solid Rock and Damn Yankee at Central Illinois Dragway September 24, 2011.

We went there intent on getting the win light against the Damn Yankee, but it was not to be.
The first round I tried leaving at a higher RPM than I usually do, but all that resulted in was severe tire shake. It shook quite hard and I clicked second gear, but must have gotten out of the groove cause she darted to the left. During this the chute came out. I backpedaled and cranked the wheel to the right, so as not to get a cone or cross the center line. The Evil Mach I then brought 3 or maybe 4 wheels off the ground, depending on who you talk to. When I finally got her calmed down and in the groove she took a sharp dart to the right and got very close to the wall. By then I was at the finish line and finally lifted. It was a 5.83. I've taken some wild rides in this Mustang but this was one of the wildest!!

... The second round I was really ready and so was the BBC powerplant! I did a heck of a burnout, smoking them well past the 330" and stopping at the eighth mile and backed up, ready to strap one on that wicked little Vega!!!
We both got staged and at the flash I nailed it from an idle, it shot out to one of our best 60' times in quite a while, a 1.06. I got second gear and right after that it went to the right. I backed off to half throttle, it kept going and I let off a couple more times but it just kept wanting to go right so I just got out of it. It went a 6.03. Somewhere during all this Mark came thundering past me!!!

We will be stripping to Solid Rock Mustang down to the bare chassis this winter and freshening everything up and will be going back after the Damn Yankee to get the score a bit more even. So far we only have one win from all the many times we have lined up together.

Here's a link to some photos by Michelle Coker Simmons from last weekend. The burned up FED is the Hendricks Motorsports top fuel car driven by Randy Bridges. His injuries were not too serious although I'm sure they were painful.
