It's a hard road, but you have a unique car among unique cars. Does your car sound different than the Chevys? It would be neat to listen in and see if we could detect the difference. bp

That's a good question BP. Of course I've only ever heard it from cockpit with a helmet on

I was told by several of the racers at the Thompson meet this June that it was way louder than everyone else, but there wasn't that many blown cars there either (except for the usual gamut of street rods on steroids... )

Wowsers, fresh basement from Donovan. If I hurt mine I'll be ordering a replacement block from Frank's Auto Wrecking. :D You really need to bring that car out to the NW sometime. Or I need to head in your direction. I'd love to see you run that import sometime.

I received my new block Friday afternoon! It's purdy 8)

The difference between the older blocks that I had been running and the new one is pretty big - a lot of improvements. The new bottom end that they started putting on them is really nice. I'll try to get some pics of it.

Overall, it should go back together pretty easy.

They changed the bellhousing bolts so that they are ALL 7/16, the early chrysler had a mix of 7/16 and 3/8. I'm going to have to change a few of the countersunk bolts on my tranny adapter over to 7/16 - no biggie.

After 50 years of making these things you'd think that they would stroke clearance the inside of the block, but I put a sleeve in it and it looks like I'm gonna have to do some grinding to clear the rods.

The biggest pain (as always) is getting the starter to fit. Unfortunately they put a stud and a cross bolt right where I normally mill a chunk out of the pan rail to clear the starter. Some interesting machining will be required to make the starter fit now....

back to work...

Way to go Perry!! A new block is always nice. Man, a dimensionally correct block! I wouldn't know how to act.!!
If you think it's exciting now, wait till we start it.

I know it's not like me to work on the car before May

I did a little bit of work to the rear chassis. The pinion angle wasn't quite right because I ran out of adjustment on the ladder arms, and the adjustments that I could do had mad the wheelbase enough shorter that the tires were about rubbing on the front of the tubs. So I made some modified ladder arms and now I've got the correct pinion angle and the tire's centered in the tub. I got everything all squared up and back together this weekend - heck I even re-did the front end alignment while I was at it.

I got the heads back from the machine shop Friday. The new block has provisions for ring dowels between the holes, so I got the heads machined to accept them. If there's a way to hold this thing together tighter and stiffen it up - I'm doing it.

Dropped the sleeves into it and it looks like I'm going to have to do a bit of aluminum grinding for rod clearance on the block. I need to drop the crank and a piston in to see for sure tho.

Just about figured out the machining needed to get the starter to clear the new side rails - just need to make the trek across the road to use the mill.
