Bluebaugh Racing: Have We Hit A Wall?

Bluebaugh Racing’s Team Magna Fuel attended the Pacific Street Car Associations (PSCA) Las Vegas Nationals this past weekend April 17-19, 2009. Bluebaugh qualified in the 4th position of 16 Pro Street entries with a 6.53 @ 216 mph running against a strong head wind.
Crew Chief Deborah Woodard said we went to the event with intentions of taking a fairly aggressive stance in stepping up the nitrous systems in the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo. Just several weeks ago we found success in stacking the 4th unit of nitrous reaping a 6.45 @ 219 mph, our best time yet.
We are starting to question though if we have hit a wall or there is just something we are missing. Efforts to squeeze more out of our current combination are not responding as hoped. More nitrous is not showing any difference in time increments early in the run. This will be the first time we have to simply consider that we have stuffed all the nitrous into a motor that it will accept. Bluebaugh said at this time we are open to any suggestions that make sense or not. The alternative is that we need a bigger engine to stay in the top ranks of competition as the field is now starting to see more frequent 6.20’s and 6.30’s.
Our plan to win with wicked consistency needs to at least see the low 40’s. Just a few tenths away, we are pushing hard to make every gain possible. We pinched a few rings in our attempt to step up the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo this weekend and the team stayed up all night to re-ring and inspect the engine on location at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As luck would have it, the MSD Digital-7 failed in round two, after working perfectly for years, giving John Mihovetz of Team Accufab an easy run to the final.
Woodard said, we have not hurt our motor in a long time, but we had to run it to edge to find out. The MSD unit was just the icing on the cake on a tired Sunday morning. Though it’s been a rough start of season for us, we have always been the team that could make the most of what we have and we are going to keep trying and trying some more. Bluebaugh Racing will be back racing with the PSCA in Fontana May 15 -17, 2009.

Bluebaugh Racing would like to thank Magna Fuel for being our title sponsor this year. Fans can tune into www.speedsceneracing.com weekly every Tuesday for cool racing action. Make sure to catch our last appearance in the archives on 4/14/2009. We would like to welcome JE Pistons for 2009. Woodard said we have been using JE Pistons all along and they have always been of high quality and stand up well to the extremes of nitrous we put through our engines. Thanks to Mickey Thompson Tires for their 3rd year of support. Our M/T Tires will drive through anything. If you need large diesel truck repair stop by your local W.W. Williams service center and make sure to stop by our pit for cool give ways. Thanks to Fast Forward in Phoenix for our awesome new headers. The company compares to the best and offers the best price in the industry. Thanks to Highway 69 Racing Products for being a sponsor and joining our crew. Check out Hughes Performance making tough transmissions for the street, strip, and your towing vehicle. Thanks to JD from SI Valves, our resource for quality valve train components. Special thanks to our friend and consultant Charles Carpenter Racing for continuing support over the years.
