Got lucky I guess - We use a lot of salt on the roads here in the winter and we're no more than 15 minutes from the Atlantic anywhere on the Island so it is a surprise to find one of these that's not starting to dissolve.

One month from today is the season opener at Cape Breton Dragway and we're scrambling to either fix or find something to race in the Street/Sportsman class. Got an annoying ignition wiring problem with the VW plus the engine is very tired and should really be changed. No other alternatives on hand since the Cavalier's engine is toast and I am NOT going to race the truck.
Guess I'll have to coax some life into the VW but I'm not looking forward to that. The ignition problem might be an easy fix but an engine swap is NO FUN AT ALL in those MK 2 Golfs - no wonder the local diehard VW guys call them "Hitler's Revenge"

Just ordered my new housing ends from Bears Performance. Imagine that - Mopar ends and axles on a Chevy 12 bolt. That means Mopar brakes and bolt pattern too......

What a day!! I am totally worn out and have just enough energy to type and drink hot tea. 13 hours at the track - 9 hours setting up the track and the rest helping my pals Len and Doug with their new rides. And man was it COLD - 10C(50F) and high winds.

Image
Len finally got a couple of shakedown passes in the Vette. I told him just to go for an easy drive and feel the thing out but he just HAD TO do a burnout.

Image
Doug had the dragster out for the first time with a fresh 632 and he got the same advice as I gave Lenny. He didn't listen either LOL but I have to give them both credit for lifting early. Neither of them made a full pass since there wasn't a lot of rubber or traction compound down. Also I tried to teach both of them how to pack a chute but only wound up being appointed as official chute packer for both cars.

Here's a couple of shots that makes a person remember we're racing at an active airport...........

Good day/Bad day here. Bad stuff first - Len took out a finish line photocell and damaged that lightweight 'glass nose when one of the u-joints in the steering shaft broke at 150+ MPH. He's been working at it with one of our pals who's a fiberglass boat builder since lunchtime and he says it'll be ready in the morning.

Image

Now the good - Yours truly in only the third pass ever in the truck hit a perfect light(.500). Landed home at 8:45PM, wolfed down a snack then walked up to the Membertou Reservation for an awesome Buffy Saint Marie concert. Track points day tomorrow - wish me luck.
