We went to New England Dragway on July 26th to run at one of the 4 Nostalgia Events that we had planned for this season. Had a little mishap at about the 1/8th mile mark. The tip of the push rod on the number 8 intake dried out and burnt. It ended up shortening it enough to fall off the rocker and close that intake. All the mixture that was heading down that runner and couldn't, had no other choice but to head for number 6 and leaned it out to the point that it burned a hole down the side of the piston. That very same thing happened last season in the exact same cylinder so it was hurt to begin with. With this additional burning the sleeve in that cylinder just couldn't take it and broke away a portion of it dumping it in the oil pan. The engine is out and at the machine shop having a new sleeve stuffed in so we can race once again on August 30th.
All fixed and ready to head to the track again this weekend. I took the opportunity while the engine was out to have it freshened up, so it's back to being new once again. New tune-up also.
Weekend of racing is done. Made three 1/8th mile passes more for test and tune than anything else, but three wins were ok too. We backed the tune-up way down and only ran one system to try and get back to where we were when it ran the good numbers. It worked out perfectly too, and we came home with no extra parts. Next showing will be September 27th at New England Dragway.
