Well howdy fellow Draglisters,....

I have secured and returned home with Flying Phil Elliotts former 69 Nova F/c Roller to take on and begin a new project, A Nitro Injected funny car,..

Image

This body and chassis are not original to each other the chassis is a Sarte or at least a good copy,.Phil acquired this chassis out of North Carolina and the history of whos and when has yet to be determined,..

The body as purchased from our own Steve "Lippy" way back when by Phil is the old Ernie Duckett Nova funny car Body and the information right here was spoken to me by Ernie Duckett himself,..Yes the body Was from Bobby Woods 1st Nova funny car and then it became the Super Golden Rod Nova funny car,.It is also confirmed by Ernie it is the first of the two Bobby woods Nova funny cars because when Ernie purchased it in 1973 as the Golden Rod Woods 2nd Nova Funny car was reposed and then was auctioned off, the winning bidder later ran the car and Ernie had ran against it,..Also When Ernie bought the Super Golden Rod Nova it still had the original Bobby Woods Don Hardy chassis under it right up until Ernie had chassis builder Cecil Hicks Sema ID #81 built him a newer narrower chassis, the original Hardy chassis quickly disappeared from Hicks shop/sold...Ernie Duckett was a painter and body man out of Hartsville Alabama and did body, fender and paint repair, so when the new chassis by Cecil Hicks was finished Ernie and his shop Cut the former X Woods/X super Golden Rod Nova body right down the middle and narrowed it up, and also shortened it a bit which explains why the front nose hood emblem molding is so small,..so here are the facts and it is confirmed by Ernie himself,. Ernie also adds that the body was taken off the newer and narrower Cecil Hicks chassis later around 1977-79 and a Charger/Omni body was mounted and it then was called "Rolling Thunder" that car was pearl white with about 6 candy stripes, it would be sold to someone and went to the Massachusetts area. Ernies former Nova body was sold and it changed hands two or three times and wound in the hands of Steve"Lippy" Steve Lippoldt and then sold to Phil Elliot ....Still working on the current chassis ID / History.

So glad to keep the car in the Draglist family! It couldn't be in better hands. Thanks, Vic! Looking forward to the build. Maybe we can get new chapters of the story kicked off on nitronova.com again! bp

Congrats on the Nova. (although you broke my heart when ya sold the Vega). Can't wait to see the build.
I like the idea of Inj. nitro, sounds perfect for you. Just promise to bring it east so we can see it run.

Zappy,.. Riley says hi back to you, and yes the Veneys Going by by was a real heart breaker to many,..My Bad..!!!!!

So we finally got the extremely heavy Nova body off to get a better view of the chassis and such,.. She looks a bit naked, but still pretty bad ass too...lol

Image

Kinda reminds me of the old Warren & Coburn picture of their Garage, cept I am not in there with Riley sitting in chairs..lol

Here is a up close and personal video tour of the chassis good and bad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmi_CgcwDqI

A few days later I removed all that was attached to the chassis to begin restoring the chassis to a better condition, here is a pic of the chassis propped up
for flushing out the bottom frame rails with some tranny fluid mix then WD40,.

Image

So as of right Now,..I am going over the chassis with scotch brite pads and Wd 40 front to back to remove the uglyness and grey primer paint so as to get the chromoly all Purdy and so the Div 6 chassis tech guy can see it 100% to go over it with a fine tooth comb and sonar checker so we know where the chassis will cert too, and or what all it might need for a certain cert.................

More to come.

I don't want to see any mud on this one like your last adventure in racing, that is unless you let Zappy drag you
back the return road at Quaker City with the chase truck doing 55 MPH as you dodge the potholes!!!! I thought Sharon was
going to fall off the tailgate?   And you screaming at him to SLOW DOWN. :D Ahhh the good ole dayz. 8)
I miss the Venny's Vega too. Now get back to work!

shame that there's a beer company out there with your last name, Vic...."Miller Time" would be a great moniker on the flanks of that new beast of yours....

LOL,..Its always "Miller Time",..and that mud slinging thingy is over....

A few Pictures of the chassis after about 5 hours of WD40 and scotch brite pads,.. still need to do the rear back half, a few X braces, and some of the bottom frame rail,.but it is cleaning up really nice. I have found only a few areas that had previous welds for tabs, rear "K" bracing, and the old hoop location...
Next up after the cleaning will be driving off to see the Div 6 chassis inspecter in a week or so in Yakima.
