This year has started off well!!!

Speedworld Dragstrip
Wittmann, AZ
Feb. 13, 2010

With temperatures in the low 70’s and a race track with teeth, ADRA held Race #2 at Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, AZ. Affordable Powder Coating handed out the first checks of the day for the “One Shot”. John Schurr won Super Pro when he dialed a 10.78 and then ran a 10.781. Ed Young was the Pro winner with a 12.46 dial and a 12.462 run.

The bounty money sponsored by Cindy Claflin-DeBrooke of Century 21 Realty for Super Pro went to John Schurr while the Pro was awarded to Henry Zacharias. Best reaction time in eliminations cash sponsored by Morrison Auto Machine went to Steve Akey in Super Pro with a .003 as Rob Grangrade took Pro with a stunning .001.

Magoo’s Automotive “Best Package” for Super Pro also went to Steve Akey when he had a .003 light and ran right on his 10.34 dial with a 10.340. The Pro category saw Rob Grangrade only seven thousandths off his 12.32 dial with a 12.327 and combined with his .001 reaction time put together a .008 package.
Joe Howard in Super Pro and Tim Vargas in Pro were the BART winners sponsored by Specialty Automotive. Howard had a .025 average and Vargas had an outstanding .004 for three qualifying passes.

For his third win of the day, John Schurr took the Diane Dyer sponsored Starbucks “Wake Up Call” when he reported a 2.339 reaction time on a by run. The Sonoco Fuels random draw went to Matt Gallegos and Rick Proctor took home the 50/50 draw. Chuck O. at Torco Fuels did not have a reported winner.

Congratulations were given to Phil Dion for his Super Pro category win over Sharyl Gill. Phil dialed his ’64 Plymouth Belvedere to a 10.90 then ran a 10.925 at 135.34 MPH. Sharyl’s Camaro was running hot (above 230°) and slowed to a 9.700 on her 9.58 dial at 138.33 MPH to be in the number two spot for the third race in a row. Robbie Grangrade had a by in the Pro Final when Bill Oxford’s Camaro was wounded in the Semis and was unable to make the call. Robbie, last year’s defending ADRA Pro Champion and Rookie of the year, dialed a 12.31 and then ran a 12.326 at 109.14 MPH to be in victory lane early in 2010.
The next ADRA race is on Saturday, March 6th in Tucson. Gates are at 8 AM.
