In all the years I have known Al, I think that is the first time I have got to meet his wife Sandy. Super lady.

Pro, how about a rear end update? :D

Jeff had a little set back. The rt. front brake hose on the silver caah plugged up and his B-R-A-K-E rotor got a little toasty. Took the hose off & couldn't blow air through it. I suspect the hose deteriorated & collapsed inside (I guess you could say his caah has hardening of a arteries) Of course the steel line was rusted too so he is replacing everything to the master cyl. He's got the parts & will put it together Monday on his day off, then back to the black camaro. He's purdy' much replaced the whole brake system on the rust bucket now. Did the rear brakes awhile back. It was sooo rusty he had to replace all the lines & the wheel cyl. He's still not ready to give it up. He thinks he can still get a few more miles out of the heap.
Here's the new stuff. He's going to dry fit the housing first. We need to add some brake line tabs, The torsion bar mounts need some fabbing cuz' the axle tubes are bigger on the 9" and we are going to TIG a couple tie down tabs on it to make strapping down to the trailer easier. He's going to get the rotors turned & throw a new set of pads on the back while it's apart.
Took the old rear end apart to get the disc brake backing plates off. I sure made a mess of that unit. lol. But the backing plates are fine. HEHEHEHE.

Good looking parts! I know I have mentioned this before. On bare metal just spray it off with thinner and then you can spray it with a light coat or 2 of self-etching primer. Let that flash and you can paint right over it.

You can use an activated enamel or go to the hardware store. Buy some appliance paint or about $3-4.00 bucks a can. It is the same paint as the $15.00 a can epoxy paint. It dries hard and shiney and looks like you used an activated enamel like centari on it. :D

Not to step on your toes Rapid, but Rustoleum "Hammer Paint" in the rattle can works excellently and does not require any primer before squirting on.... 8) Its available at my local Wally World...should be in Gary's neck of the woods also.

We were thinkin' of black POR-15 with a topcoat of rattle can black. But, it'll be a few days B4 paint so we'll have to ponder the options. Jeff is mainly just looking to keep it from rusting (like his sliver '85 rust bucket) His '95 is rust free for the most part. Mostly because it hibernates under a caah cover during winter & the '85 takes all the salt.

After you clean bare metal with thinner, you can paint right over it. However I always use the self-etching as it bites in to the bare metal really well, and seems to hold the top coat on as well. Then even if the paint chips, it will not rust.

Is the Hammer Tone, a super glossy hard finish like epoxy paint? How does the cost compare??

Rapid, as Tim and I have found, putting a primer under Hammer paint makes it easier to scuff...however, squirting it directly on bare metal (after a wipe down with some laquer thinner or equivalent) and you can't hardly scrape that stuff off with a grinder. The Black Hammer Paint is a semi-gloss deal while the Silver is more of a matt finish. Peggy's entire chassis and rear end is done in the Silver... I must mention, that the Black looks more like a Charcoal Grey, but either way they are both pretty cool.....

Cost?...aproximately 6 or 7 bucks a can...
