It has been a long time since I posted anything about the Chevelle.
After 2 years of searching I finally located Jim Adcock who drove the
TIGER II A/FX CHEVELLE. Jim is now 66 years old and living in the
Phoenix,Az area. After several phone calls & e-mails, I sent Jim copies
of the pictures I have as it sits today and Jim and his father (Andy) who
is now 87, and they are convinced that the body & chassis are from the
TIGER II CHEVELLE.
Two weeks ago on a trip to Phoenix, I was lucky enough to meet and
spend several hours with Jim & his father Andy. They are both still active
in street rods, Andy had come over to Jim's in his 32 coupe. I wish I had
taken a tape recorder with, because of some of the stories they told.
The car was raced throughout Texas,Oklahoma,New Mexico and in
Arizona a few times. The car was gold at first and later was painted blue. Jim has one color photo of the car, will post it when I get it.
Henry Schroeder of T-Bar Chassis built the car, ran a 376 enderle injected
small block. They ran fuel when it was converted to the center steer
configuation later and the car was converted to a 427 bbc near the end.
The car was sold to someone around Dallas sometime in 1968 and
what happened to it and who modified it further is still a mystery. Once
the tilt body funny cars came, the old A/FX cars days were numbered.
Still looking for some pictures showing more details of the car and
history before its years in storage in Alabama or Arkansas.
The current July Hot Rod Deluxe has a picture of the car on pg 39
from the 1965 Tulsa World Championships(later World Finals).
