Trying to find my dads old racecar

Postby bluestreak06 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:36 pm

1963 Cheetah Funny Car. My dad used to race it in Maine at Oxford Dragway until about 1995 when he sold it so that me and my little brothers could have Junior Dragsters. A gentlemen from Arizona purchased it in 94-95 and as far as i know it has stayed there since. i managed to track it down two years ago as it was for sale, but have since lost where it is/where it went. as stated before, it was a 1963 cheetah funny car, so its not something you would see everday. it was mulit-colored and was called "Warrior". if anybody has any information on where it is, or if somebody may know the owner, it would be great if i could get that information and maybe get in contact with them.

I was able to find a couple of pictures to see if they jogged anybodys memory. I talked to my dad and he told me the car was originally built in New Orleans, and the shop that made the body burned down right after his was built(last one the shop made). It then made its way to Minnesota before landing in my fathers hands back in the 80's. Here are the two pictures that I have of it. Also, another thing that stood out about the whole package was the trailer. You can see it in the background of one of the pictures, it had glass sides so you could see the car when it was in the trailer.

Former long time blown alky racer Tom Finlay ran a car very similar to this in the 70's. It featured a blown 392 on gas and was classified as a BB/Altered

Mighty Mike Van Sant of Invader funnycar fame and rent a driver for several (SWC and Mickey Thompson) teams ran a Cheetah bodied flopper in 1967. There was also a car called Fascination that ran the same body style in the So-Cal AA/Gas Supercharged circuit 68-70. And of course Fiberglass Trends owner, the late Marv Eldridge ran one in the early sixties in the then popular modified sports car classes...FYI

yeah, i talked to my dad and hes had a conversation with him before. my dad had looked for info on the car before, and ran an ad in Hot Rod, which is how he was able to get a hold of Ronnie. The history of the car is pretty cool. now if only i could figure out where it is now......
