Incredibly, I got an e-mail from Don Zoellner! He wants to know the location of the Vega. Any ideas?

hi Bret..... well i was hoping you were going to tell ME where the heap is. But you can tell Don what i remember... I still had it all up until about 1990 or so here in Overland.. the vega body sat in the back yard, as by that time i had had plans to bring the heap back out as a bracket bomber 23T deal because slow funnycar heaps were not the rage then as they are now :D ... Once i got married(86) and bought my present house, lost contact with a couple guys that Allways said they wanted to go racing(no money)the deal just sat around getting dusty (i did set it up on my front porch as a chassis/23t and sat in it on halloween once  ) To back up a tad, i had Bickel (jbrc) mount a fresh hairy's T body, ordered up 4 new centerline satin wheels/tires for it, got moved into the house/shop , even had buddy Don Allen of gatorgumbo fame drive over to help sand and prime the pipe.. his wife didn't like him driving to my house and back from the east side so that never worked out. With a divorce looming i wanted to buy out the X to keep the house/shop so i sold the chassis rolling on the old wheels that came with the car, you might remember it better when O.Wade had it... Sunday Punch i think was the name he had on it,hilborn injected 427 chev on alch, clutch, lenco deal before i bought it? My plan was to make a Buck a Pounder heap like the magazines at the time were talking about... well you saw it,made fun of it, yadayada so i scratched that idea. never got the deal put back together. sold the chassis with the 23 body, original halibrand wheels/tires,fuel tank etc. to some guy my soon to be ex wife found through her brother that worked at mcdonnell douglass/boeeing in the paint department.. who he was/is i have no memory? sold the fresh rear wheels to Dawson.. only recently sold the front centerlines to Eddie Buck, along with some other stuff i had of uncle Curt's to go along with his resto projects.. the old renosed vega body sat behind my house for a while after the divorce. thought about sawing it down the middle for a wall hanger but never got around to it... one day the local inspecter told me i had to get it off the grass, so through word of mouth i had it hauled away for free  .. some years later i was told it was sitting in a back yard near the interchange of 270/1-70 and could be seen fromn the highway.. they were correct..saw it,found the house and knocked on the door.was told not for sale,it was going on a tractor pull deal,, i drove away and have never seen/heard of it since.. and i too have been looking for it :D ... I'm no Dennis Doubleday or Gatejob/Bob Gibson, etc. but i have been watching for it too... good hunting Don
GOOD TO GO !!
