Wooden Ships

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Wooden Ships

Postby Bob Kraemer » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:46 pm

I knew C,S,N & Y did the song Wooden Ships but didn't know Jefferson Airplane did it also. Who did it first? and the reason the other band did it also?

Here be why: The song was written by by David Crosby, Stephen Stills, AND Paul Kantner. Interesting. The only version I've heard is CSNY version. Never heard the Airplane version... bp

BP,
I heard it off a 2 disk set, greatest hits of Airplane & Starship. I've had the CD's for years I guess I never listened to them in there entirety.
Cool 8)
2 very different versions of a great song.

That was a cool story. I just had to listen to the CSN&Y version on vinyl afterwards. I have a half dozen Airplane / Starship albums but not that one. I'll have to hunt for it on the 'net.

Paul Kantner is still writing novels and songs similar to this out of North Beach..if you like Blows Against The Empire=styled songs, you might like his recent stuff....the "Next Generation" 8)
