The location: The USS Nimitz off the coast of Iran during the hostage crisis in 1980. The event: the "Steel Beach Picnic." The band: That's Steve "Space Ghost" Gammill on the left. Can anybody ID the guy on the right?

Yeah, believe it or not... We did two originals I wrote... one was called Harpoon Missile (the biggest threat to us at the time). I can't remember the other... it was a lot of fun. The dude on the far left (hollerin' support) could do Robert Plant covers like nobody's business. On a ship with 6,000 guys on it, there were several listenable cover bands. That guy and his pals did some great Zeppelin. bp

That was a solid five plus months at sea without a port visit... longest since WW2. Man, I am NEVER going that long without seeing a pretty girl again! (Several years later, I went to sea for two weeks while training some sailors on their telecommunications system. When we pulled back into San Diego, I was practically hanging out of the cab window looking at all the gals!) bp
