Norah's "Tennessee Waltz" hits me pretty hard tonight, as I may be signing papers moving me back to acreage shortly. (Always traumatic for a "city boy......). As a third generation Jazzbo, I get lost in the music's traditions and how it's affected my family...perhaps more than anything else, it's the ties that bind. Western Swing has always held forth on the US99 corridor-ballrooms like the Spanish Castle featured the music as a mainstay for most of the pre-Beatles era.
Western Swing and.....yes, WC....Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas territorial bands grew the music beyond the big band peak of popularity...and I find that music...the Jazz equivalent of Quick 8......very grounding. When I heard that Ellington would draw farmers from hundreds of miles away to one of his dance concerts, it represented an America that was truely inclusive.....

Picked up the Time/Life 1970s Music Explosion set of 8 CDs at a yard sale for $4. Lots of good stuff on there..........

finally set up the big indoor stereo again today after moving out to make room for a new TV at Thanksgiving. Emily and I were jamming in a multi era mix. Here's some of it... (can only think of some of the band names and not all the songs... too old!)

Anyway, got the "studio" set back up... the stereo's now hooked to all the itunes on the kids' PC and it feeds five sets of speakers, including the back yard. As a bonus, they now get killer sound for their PC gaming. Here's Jason checking out the new set up (PC in front of him). bp

glad to hear ya got the studio set back up.. I know from what you told me it's quite the setup.
A couple weekends ago, I finally got the KLH rock speakers out of the closet (brand new in the box for the last year and a half) and wired them up to the stereo downstairs. Now we have music on the deck outside the kitchen! I installed a volume knob out there also.
Satelite, cd, dvd, whatever ya want

Awesome, Jer. Ive been working too damn much. As much as I love music, in hindsight I can't believe I let the thing sit for seven months while I rushed back and forth to work and then sat up on the internet every night. Having my team from work over on Saturday and that forced me to retool the deal and get it ready. Life's too short to go without music! bp
