8) wow what a great report WC !!! man i can relate.... years ago we played for the bigwig "Dudes" (gator is cringing) from A-B (local beer deal) in the news lately..Stuffed shirts all around the joint. 2nd set the trophy wives were grinding each other to the beat(s) :P whilst' the "suits" were back behind the bar talking big deals  comparing shoes  needless to say, some of the ladies were digging the big speakers of the P.A. System more than the "paid speaker" of the event

Thanks...last night we played outside at T-Bone Tom's Backyard. It was hot and humid out there...no wind, just high-humidity air and a bigger crowd than usual...all of the main people we played for last weekend at the NASA Hilton were there and they brought their friends, there was also a 50th birthday party for a lady and a family that showed up after the funeral of a Pee Wee Bowen Band fan and friend. We ended up playing hard and heavy for a dancing crowd of several hundred people until well past quitting time. Finally, Pee Wee's wife Jerry came up and gave us the cutoff sign...police were expected imminently, as it was going on 11:30 and the deal is 11...so we stopped, but they were dancing on stage next to us as well as on the dance floor...Pee Wee wouldn't stop...we were pouring sweat but once we were soaking wet, we just said what the heck. Might as well have fun...we ended up with $228 in tips, which paid out $28 per man after the nice gig pay...tonight we're playing a class reunion up in New Caney, it's about an hour and a half drive from here in moderate traffic. These folks tonight are fans, and it will be a private party with air conditioning and a free-for-all attitude. Life is good.

The post-Blastula aftermath has been difficult for our family. There have been large crowds of teenagers over here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 2 weeks straight, finally things started getting a little crazy, and I had to make some changes to the occupancy factor in our house. It turned out that 2 runaways were hiding out here, I'd come home from gigs and there were kids on the internet that I had never seen before...I'd ask them what are you doing? It's 3 o'clock in the morning, who are you? Where do you live? They'd just get up and walk out of the house...other mornings when I'd get up for work, I was stepping on clothes, shoes, backpacks, etc just to walk across the room to the computer, and there'd be some kid laying on the floor sleeping and another one across the room...get the picture? The cops called over here yesterday evening while I was out looking for one of the kids who is missing, and it turned out he had made a phone call from our number that my wife didn't know about (they took our wireless phone outside to him and he made the call and nobody said anything to Debby...) She got Nick this morning and had a little talkie-poo with him...HE is the only one allowed to use the internet and if I check the History and find one single porn site or download, the computer will be dunked in the Gulf of Mexico before it gets disassembled and placed in the dumpster. Also none of our family appreciated having 12 people in here all the time who don't talk to us, introduce themselves or seem to have any other reason to be here other than to continue the fun campaign and get in our way. As of today, this all stops and it stops permanently. I found my amp in the garage set on full-kill 2 nights ago. Nobody asked me if they could use it. I am a very patient, understanding and flexible person, but things were getting out of control and the next thing you know, one of those kids were going to bring in some dope or booze and some girl's parents were going to get uptight and start looking for them and find them here and who do you think would go to the cat pound for contributing to the delinquency of a minor? With no knowledge of who was here and what they were doing...I'll end the rant, but things had to change, period. Cheers, WC1

I feel sorry for them. There isn't anything for them but junk culture, everywhere they turn. They appear to be lost in a fog, with nowhere to turn but here. With the band, they all had a focus and a purpose. It was an inspired moment in all their lives, and we could feel the strength, momentum and good feelings around us...I hope they pull something together and move on. But our home had turned into a halfway house for displaced teenage souls, and that isn't the idea or the purpose of it. It's just sad to see kids wandering around like they do. The loss of Blastula had a huge impact on this group of kids. I know the story on a few of them and I am thankful that my son isn't in their situation and he wouldn't be, because he keeps a clean slate with us all the time. When the band split up, he became the defacto leader of this group of kids. His ambitions are very clear to him, and he's following his dream to its realization. The kids know that, it shows in him. But for now, they all had to leave. Thanks for the words of encouragement...WC1

I missed that Blastula broke up. When you said post-Blastula era, I thought you meant after the recent concert. Did they break up after that? I regret that I have not popped the DVD in yet (as always I'm the delay -- you had it to me in days). Sorry to hear that it's over, but it's not unusual for young bands, is it? bp

Yes, Blastula broke up. The two guitar players, Roland and Micah Zech, had to move to Florida with their family. It was a painful situation for everybody. We loved those boys like they were our own, and they loved us like a second family, and Nick like a brother. The finality of it landed like a lead pipe. But, life goes on. Something good will come out of it. The 2 years that Nick was with them changed his life and ours, too...WC1
