Every Saturday afternoon at 5, they show a Lawrence Welk show for 1 hour on PBS...today's show is from the mid-70s and it is wonderful...dancing, singing, playing by a full orchestra of super-talented musicians, with Big Larry out front introducing each number in his inimitable style. The married couple did "Take Me Home, Country Roads" beautifully, the lady came back and sang "Downtown" great..."We Can Fly" by the 3 young ladies, the tap dancers did their thing, some featured combos from the orchestra did some popular jazz numbers...those guys can play circles around anybody I can think of...now they're doing "Y'all Come" with a county fair backdrop...the Irish tenor just sang "Around The World in 80 Days"...This takes me back to another time...I guess I just didn't appreciate the Lawrence Welk show as much back then as I do now, but we watched it every Sunday with my Grandma when we were kids and on into our teens...when she left us, I acquired her record collection, and it had 17 Lawrence Welk albums in it...now it's a Dixieland "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"...they're tearing it up...they wore loud, day-glow clothes and white shoes...Welk was in his beige double-breasted suit...Good Night, Good Night...Cheers, WC1
