This story will be a bit long
All my growing up years my Maternal Grandfather had a Home Made chest of drawers in his workshop. When my Grandparents sold there house to move to a Condo. I brought the dresser to my house. This is when I noticed a name painted on the end. "Kokubo". The Island [Richmond,B.C.] that I grew up on,had a lot of Japanese Families, but this name was unfamiliar to me. I asked Papa were it came from. He said,"At the beginning of WW2 when the Japanese were being interned,my brother and I stored a lot of belongings of our Japanese friend in our barns. This dresser was never reclaimed. When I sold the Farm in 1948,I brought it to the new house." I brought it to my house in 1979. I asked friends from Richmond from time to time if any knew of the Kokubo's,nothing ever went anywhere.
Fast forward to last night. A cousin of mine posted a picture of an area of Richmond on Facebook. Myself and others posted comments about growing up on the Island community. One lady recognized my cousins name and asked what year he was at high school etc, etc. Then she posts "My maiden name was,,,,,,,,,,," Kokubo". We've already chatted .She told me that they have no heirlooms from before the war. I'm just thrilled at how this worked out.So is she. We have to arrange for her to get it yet.

UPDATE: Joanne and I have been in touch these last weeks. Susan and I delivered the Dresser to her today. It was surprisingly emotional. At first Joanne didn't seem to want to touch it. She said it is the only Family Heirloom from before WW2. Then said that after 75 years the same two families have met because of this Dresser.
