What's Your Favorite Racing Song ?

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

What's Your Favorite Racing Song ?

Postby Bob Kraemer » Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:47 pm

Mine is Stevie Wonder's Superstition.
This happened back in 1972 > 1974 when I was 12 or 14 at the time my brother was helping Trueman Fields out on his S/S car & took me with him to the points race at Edgewater Sports park when all NHRA classes ran point's meets.
We were traveling down a very steep hill on the way to the track and Superstition came on the radio. Don't know why but this song has always been my favorite racing song.
This was also my first live experience with drag racing. 8)
Watched it on TV but never got to be up close to the cars. :)
Damn I sure miss those days

OK .. can one of younz help me? Domenic always use to talk about a song, something with the words of "won't you come along and ride with me in my buick 59, buick 59". I think the group was Red Hot Chilie Mac's or something like that.

I think Barb is referring to Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers....not the Red Hot Chili Peppers...very confusing assortment of band names...could have been Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks...I'm looking. Right now my album collection isn't indexed...Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen did "Hot Rod Lincoln"...great song! My favorite racing song is "Gone" by the Rip Chords...it was a small hit before they scored big with "Hey, Little Cobra". The road group came to Galveston in 1967 and played at my high school. They broke up in Galveston. 2 of the guys stayed in town and started a surfing cult or something.
Cheers, WC1

There was another song by Bob Seeger I think that was about drag racing.
Or it might have been Steve Winwood "Give some loving" not sure.
