Bakersfield Smokers, etc. Records (from days gone bye)

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

"The BIG Sounds of the Drags".

I have that album, one of my favorites. One of my older brothers bought it when it first came out and I listened to it over and over. Found my copy about ten years ago in an antique store for $5.

If you listen to the beginning of Steve Miller "Livin' In The USA" and again at the very end you will hear two cuts from this LP. The most recognizable is the reference to Lefty Murtoch and the Howards Cam Special.

I also have a 1963 recording of Bonneville. Another favorite.

Early Drag Race Records

Postby thunderlungs » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:15 pm

Here's an update:

Fleetwood Records made a bunch drag race event recordings in the 60's. Their original recordist Dick Blake and I met at the 1963 AHRA Winter Nationals and it was he who got Hurst into that business one year later.

Anyway, new guy bought the assets and is re-recording those events on CD's. Here's the link.
