16 Volt Batteries

Postby Mike-Casella » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:52 am

My poor old Turbostart 16 volt batteries are at the end of their life-span. I must replace them with something. I've been doing a ton of reading over the past month or so, about the different manufacturers of them now. It looks like the new light-weight 16's from Powermaster has what I need. Is there anyone else running 16's that may have different experiences?

I need to go with two due to the voltage draw that 8 nitrous solenoids produce in a 1/4 mile pass. Not to mention the other things like trans brake, etc.

Mike, what about putting a mag in the car for the engine, get it off the batteries, run a retard deal for the mag, and run a oddyssey batt -12 volt for the rest.??Just a thought. That way the eng is on the mag, current would not affect the engine at all. Like a pro mag?
If you think it's exciting now, wait till we start it.

I just don't have the room for a magneto. I need at least one 16volt battery just to keep up with voltage draw from 8 solenoids being on.

Anyway, everything is under control now, I didn't realize I am the only one running these batteries.

 I wouldn't be surprised in the near future that some of the hy-brid 24volt cars become high up on the most stolen lists

Mike...just a thought here....based on your statement "not enough room for a Magneto"......is there anyone who makes a front drive system for a Mag, like MSD does for a regular distributor???...and if not....with your fabricating skills could YOU make one???
