70 mustang traction

What do you recommend for suspension upgrades/add-ons to get traction with a 70 mustang convertible? Would like to keep leaf springs to keep costs down. It has air shocks right now. Are these OK for drag? We are adding 26x10 slicks.

If you want to keep the leaf springs, the cheapest add on that actually works pretty good is a set of Lakewood style slapper bars.....bolt 'em onto the lower side of the spring perches and make sure that the snubber is all the way tight up against the front spring eye (no gap between the rubber snubber and the spring)

At a later date, you "may" want to consider stepping up to a ladderbar. This CAN also be used with the leaf springs, but a housing floater would need to be installed as well, to keep the bars and springs from binding up.....

Good Luck! 8)

IMO, you need a good set of slapper bars, drag shocks 90/10 (this is a strip car right?) and trick front springs.

What you want is weight transfer and the avoidance of axle wrap/wheel hop.

Personally - If your looking for a cheap/easy fix the "slapper bar" would fit the bill. The slapper bar technology is a little dated. If your looking for better performance I would look into a more updated traction device. The newer devices give you a little better/lower ride height also.

The Cal-Tracs system is a lot better deal, in my opinion it is the best choice for street/strip and performance. The only downfall is if your street driven your going to sacrifice some ride quality. Here is a link http://www.calvertracing.com/

Slide-A-Link by competition engineering would be my second choice. It works on the same design as the Cal-tracs but it has a slide adjustability built into it to detune it for street or strip usage for better ride quality.

If your a build it yourself kida guy, here is a link how to "copycat" the Cal-Tracs http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/Traction.html

BTW ..Hello Eric
