down track shaking

Postby 23t » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:55 am

Throw me some ideas!! I'm having a problem with vibration/ shaking down track in the altered. From start to finish. The faster I go down track, the more pronounced it gets. I thought tire balance problem, but wouldn't that go away at some point? Its shakes so bad that with my glasses the finish line is a blur!!!!!

Front tires are not balanced. Goodyear 26x4.5x15
Rears are balanced, and weights are still in place. Goodyear 33x13x15

Just my 2¢, if it gets worse as you go faster it sounds like a rotating part imbalance, - wheel or drive shaft lost a weight? Does the steering wheel shake? If it does it could be front wheels. If not could be rear wheels.
That's problee' what I would eliminate first Ann E. "Weigh".

Opps, didn't see the part about rear wheels not loosing weights. Still could be tire imbalance though.

Thanks Pro, Don't shake in steering, mostly in seat area.
A friend here at the shop brought up to check the u-joints in driveshaft.

Could it be driveshaft balance? Check and see if there may have been a weight welded on the driveshaft that came off.

Thanks guys!

When I get some free time I'll ckeck the drive shaft. It sure would be nice to have a smooth ride and be able to keep the finish line in focus.

Thanks again, Daryl

Or duct tape maybe?

Last year, racing at a local track, I hit a bump that cause my glasses to fall off. Not fun especially with a full face helmet that kept one of the temples poking me in the eye till I got stopped!!!

check your drive shaft to see if its bent or twisted , wheel bearings on the axles can be going , also the rear housing can be toeing in ( look at tire tread to see if this is culprit) also if you have slide on discs on the back they might not be seated against the axle hubs or improperly torqed rims ( car up on jackstands and spin the wheels and watch the treads and rims for movement ) slicks could also have a flat spot

Thanks Stimpy.

Drum brakes on rear. But I have wondered about the slicks. Had it up on stands last week and ran it in gear, I did notice the slicks weren't rotating in a perfect circle!! Just though high and lows was from sitting. Now that I think about it, the car was on stands all winter and was only setting in the shop for 3 days before I set it up on stands and ran it. I hate to say that the slicks are about 6yrs old. 1/2 wore down but the wear pattern is wavy clear across like it should be.
