Lost Keys

Postby WildcatOne » Tue Sep 15, 2009 9:52 pm

I somehow managed to lose my keys to George (70 VW Bug).
I got the door handle loose (2 screws inside the door) and copied the numbers off of the lock.
Now what do I do? Call a locksmith? get him to come over?
Same key does the doors and the ignition...
Cheers, WC1

Tie a note to a weather balloon.......

A lock smith should be able to fix you up. You know as soon as you get a nutter' key made the original will show up.

Callenzy de lockensmithen und tellenz him dat ze keyzen iz losten and ya kin not findenz itz, comenz un over und makenz de keyenz fer da buggin soiz ya kin drivenz et.
That's what the guy sounded like on the phone (my cell phone, actually). If I would have had him come over and work on George, it would have been $155. I took the door handle off (2 screws and 2 gaskets) and took the whole contraption to his shop. His fee was $40 there. The numbers on the lock didn't match the stuff inside of it, which means that somewhere along the line, the lock had been rebuilt. George had been broken into at least a couple of times in his past life. Anyway, I have 2 new keys that the guy made off of the gears inside the lock. They will also start the car. One goes in my wallet, and one will go on my singular (from now on) keychain).

Now it's time for the original key to show up. Cheers, WC1
