Wheel Spacers

Postby Whatnow » Thu Nov 05, 2009 8:17 am

I need to space my rear draglites out 1/2" for clearance issues and a wheels spacer would do it. Are wheel spacers legal?

Hey Rich,

Here is an online link to the 2008 NHRA rulebook. Start on page 31 for general regulations. I breezed thru it and didn't find much about them. Main concern was proper thread engagement in the lugs. By personal experience, they tend to frown on the eccentric stud pattern type of spacer, since those can be out of center if you aren't careful installing them. Your wheel can loosen up and bad things tend to follow. This was emphasized in Funny Car last year when one car's wheel spacer wasn't aligned correctly and resulted in a crash.

Of course this is Sport Compact rulebook. I could not find an online standard version. I will try and dig some more though.

Weatherhound,

I've looked myself and as you've stated it really only covers the lug nut issue. Thanks for searching, I appreciate it.

Anytime Rich. I used to have them on my Camaro back in the day of stock wheel wells. I never got any flack from inspectors.

you can run them. But you need to install longer wheelstuds.
