Auto Darkening Weldin' Helmet.

So, Saturday Jeff & I worked on his Camaro. I decided to 86 the pro street seats (30 lbs. ea.) and go with aluminum seats in the "Z". Jeff said someday, when I get the Camaro I want I'd like to put the Tenzo seats in it. Well, he was a little bummed when his new ride had electric seats. He wasn't so sure he wanted to give 'em up. So, Saturday we welded up some ''adapter seat mountin' type brackets'' so he could keep the electric controls.

Well, that brings me to my question about the auto darkening helmet. I went to use it and ....... No auto darkening   . It was part of the deal when i bought the TIG (Miller, About 3 years ago). I always assumed it was solar powered since I can find any little doors that might have a battery behind it. :?: If I press the reset button it darkens for a second or two and that's it. If I hold it up to the sun it darkens for a second or two and then shuts off again.

Is there a battery on these things that I can't find, or is it just dead after 3 yrs. ? I had to weld Jeff's brackets with the ol' "always dark" helmet.

Try laying it directly under the florecent lamp for a while, maybe even overnight. That seems to cure ours at the race shop.

I'll try the light deal. I had it settin' in the sun for awhile to no avail.

My helmet has a battery in it - a little watch type deal. I can't remember where, but it seems like it's got a little slide lid compartment somewhere.

Soooo, I looked @ the helmet again and I'll B, there's a sticker on the inside with D-I-R-E-C-T-I-O-N-S. It says if there's a problem push the reset button (Did that). It says then put it in direct sunlight for 20 min. (Did that) actually had it out there for an hour, (I forgot). If it still doesn't respond see trouble shooting guide.  Surprise, I looked in the cabinet and there it was, the trouble shooting guide.   After readin' it over it seems I need to return it to the manufacturer  or dealer.  Who needs directions :?:

maybe they'll let you trade it in for one with a battery. Mine has been working for 5 or 6 years now.

I'll take it back to the dealer the next time I'm headed to Joliet. I have a feelin' it'll be a ''cheaper to buy a new one'' deal. But, ya' never know 'til ya' ask.... :D :D :D
