I too have to call Indy my all time favorite place to be. If i hear the word drag racing my brain starts flashing images in no particuler order. Just the thought of heading up there, getting packed and hitting the highway knowing that i don't have to think of anything else for a few days is a body and soul repairing relief from the daily humdrum. One year back in the early 1980's i knew that i was to be evicted from a house i was renting over labor day weekend so i packed all my personal stuff in the suburban and headed east to INDY not careing what the landlord would do with my stuff left in the house. If it was on the curb when i got back i will deal with it.If it had been hauled to a dump well it was at the dump and i will start over... that is how powerful the lure of the BIG GO was to me.....
GOOD TO GO !!

Kind of surprised that no east coast folks said Englishtown.

Etown is OK but it's no Indy. I also loved OCIR in the 70s in terms of a complete "I can't believe I'm here" vibe... bp

By not knowing the date of the event, I thought it was a weekend I was busy with our car,,,,it wasn't. I missed a chance to drive Virgil Hartman's Nitro Nostalgia Funnycar at Englishtown at the FCR. It would be have been pretty special to be at Englishtown, in a nitro funny with all the history the place has.

I have never had the pleasure of any of the legendary tracks of So. Calif. I know the mystic, and love Lionsbest stories about them,,,,but,,,,INDY is INDY baby!!! 8)

Past:

Lions 1st, OCIR 2nd, Fremont 3rd (all ocean air tracks)

Present:

Mission, Earlville, Noble, for divisional tracks

National Tracks there are a few of them, I think Chicago takes the top though for us.

Too many stories that go behind my reasons, but there are lot's of them.

Thanks for the question

Islip, Long Island

Kidding...kidding...!!!

Someone should open a thread on the topic of the worst drag strips... That would lead to some laughs, I'm sure.
