Oh, man. This hit me like a lead pipe. He was one of the greatest ever and a major influence on me when I was a lonely, shy teenager wanting to break out into something better...his songs were towering anthems...they touched my soul deeply and eternally. I didn't know he wrote "He's A Rebel"..."Hello, Mary Lou"..."Mecca"...his songs... "It Hurts To Be In Love", "Be Careful Heart", "I'm Gonna Be Strong", and the great "Town Without Pity"..."I Wanna Love My Life Away"...yet although he toured constantly and made such outstanding recordings, he was enigmatic...distant...he stayed out there on his own and lived by his own terms. I used to wish that I could be Gene Pitney just for one show. God Bless Gene, and my deepest sympathy to his family. He will never be forgotten...somebody like him only comes around once. We were lucky we had him when we did. WC1
