Humbling compliment ....

Postby thunderlungs » Thu Apr 21, 2011 1:02 pm

Something happened this morning that I'd like to quietly share with my extended family here. It's often up to others to define our accomplishments with fresh, agenda-free eyes. Received from vintage drag racer Stormy Byrd this morning and - for one of the few times in my life - was speechless, “Jon, you were in the tower and made what we saw before us on the track magical, because these were more than just machines, you gave them souls.”

wow.

Pretty COOL compliment. I've never had the privilege of meeting you, but like many thousands of others I know the voice.

That describes you perfectly Mr. Thunderlungs! You made the funny car nights at US 131's Pop Rod meet very entertaining with your "behind the scenes" stories of drag racing's forefathers! Oil down were enjoyable with Jon Lundberg behind the mic!

There is an art to what you do, Jon, and you are the best there is at it. I've heard you over the years and what Stormy said is what we've all thought but couldn't quite put into the words he did. Thank you. WC1

That was a very nice and somewhat profound remark for Stormy to say... His words certainly hit the nail on the proverbial head... For those of us who truly love this drag racing stuff (for the right reasons), many of the cars we see really are more to us than simply just "machines", they do seem to take on a soul of their own-- Cars do have personality, character and soul-- I'm sure there's some people who would believe we're completely crazy for thinking this way-- Maybe some time in the future, science will prove we're right... H*ck, I remember, not too long ago, back when the scientific community used to INSIST that animals don't have any form of personality or soul, they INSISTED that everything animals do is strictly the result of "instinct"-- And while I'll be the first to admit that instinct plays a large role in the behavior of both animals AND people, there's no denying that animals have personality and soul... Just the other day I happened to see the MINISTRY "Jesus Built My Hot Rod" video, you certainly give a nitro-charged performance-- You add some real "soul" and "magic" to the track--Wow!!... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Thanks, Doc. Every once in awhile the things you say wind-up in places you'd never imagine.
