Drag Racing Story of the Day!

War Horse Rotates the Earth!

Itís been a couple of hectic weeks. Everything looked super when I took the motor apart after Bristol, but it was still time to put a new crankshaft in. Unfortunately, it took a little longer to get it but as they say, good things come to those who wait. Well the crank showed up Thursday afternoon and the motor was in and assembled by midnight. We left for New Jersey at 8:00 p.m. Friday night only to watch it rain out the qualifying on Saturday. NHRA planned to run qualifying on Sunday morning then eliminations in the afternoon but Mother Nature had other plans.

We rolled the fresh "War Horse" into the staging lanes as part of the first pair and promptly rotated the concrete under the tires. With the front tires one and a half feet in the air for about 100 feet then set down and hauled to one of the fastest passes EVER for a roots blower equipped alcohol funny car. The score boards lit up, showing a 5.885 at 238.38 mph! UNBELIEVABLE! Only about a dozen cars in the United States have run in the 5.80 range, and now Bruce Mullins Racing has joined that list.

Even more incredible is when we serviced the motor after the run, everything looked perfect. The best part and most gratifying feeling comes from the fact that a lot of the parts -- mainly the heads and clutch -- are not the latest and greatest pieces. It shows the talents of the entire crew and the people that help and support Bruce Mullins Racing. When qualifying finished we were number seven in the field of eight. Eighteen cars attempted to qualify. We were the only roots blower car in a class dominated by screw blower cars.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasnít interested in watching eliminations and the rain caused a postponement to a date yet to be determined. NHRA is talking about running us during qualifying at Cecil County in two weeks. Thatís fine with me because Cecil County is one of those tracks I always have good luck at. Iíll finish off with a major THANKS to everyone who has stood behind me and my racing career and said you CAN do it.
